Today I received with a deep sense of sadness, the news that Mr. Adesina Ogunlana Esq. publisher of The Scribe, had passed on yesterday 6th August 2024 without any reported illness. His passing truly saddens my heart but I will remember him because he was so remarkable. As I heard the news I flashed back to when he appeared before the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and Other Matters on where I was a panel member. I remember him for his fine manners during his appearance and for upholding the finer traditions of the bar during our proceedings . I remember him as being a passionate advocate of his clients and of course I remember that he never forebore an opportunity to use the English language in its fullness and sometimes to its peculiarity. Indeed many times he paused to spell or define words if he felt members of the gallery were confused or bemused at their usage. Mr. Ogunlana passes just after his birthday, I understand, and at a time when Nigerians are exercising their right to protest. I pray that his memory will be honored by our ability as a nation to further entrench the human rights he so courageously and colourfully fought for in his lifetime. Adieu Mr. Ogunlana gone but not forgotten. Patience Patrick Udoh
