An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dandaura Joshua, has been found guilty of collecting money from job seekers with the promise to fix them up in the agency.

Joshua was arraigned before Justice Othman Musa of the Federal Capital Territory Court 13 sitting in Bwari, Abuja, on four counts bordering on conferment of corrupt advantage upon self and cheating.
A statement by the ICPC spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, said the offences were contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, and Section 323 of the Penal Code Cap. 532, Laws of the Federal Capital Territory, 2006.

“The court was told of how the convict received the sum of N200,000 from one Dr Emmanuel Osuore with the promise to facilitate his employment by the NSCDC. The said money was received in two tranches of N100,000 each through his Ecobank account,” the statement said.
It added that when the convict was first arraigned in January 2017, he entered a not guilty plea, but when the trial began, he approached the court with a request to change the plea to guilty, which was granted.

According to the court, Joshua will be sentenced on April 10, 2019.
