A 19-year-old woman is in custody in Homa Bay Kenya for stabbing her husband to death over his plans to marry a second wife.

Michael Onyango Ondiala, 32, died moments after he was stabbed with a knife at Miyoro village in Kajwang’ sub-location, Ndhiwa sub-county.

Confirming the incident, area assistant Chief Enos Nyawade said the fight broke out after they disagreed over the plan.

The squabble, however, turned deadly after she allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed the father of two in the stomach. The boda boda operator died a few minutes later.

Following the death, a group of villagers, who were baying for her blood, stormed the home forcing her to flee to a nearby sugarcane plantation.

In a video recorded soon after she reportedly surrendered to the assistant chief, the 19-year-old claimed that their marriage was troubled after he insisted on marrying a second wife.

“My husband wanted to marry a second wife and he began disliking me. At one time, he ordered me to pack and call the marriage quits, before the fighting began,” said the woman.

According to Nyawade, the suspect recently returned home after she separated from the deceased after a disagreement.

“The woman took off for some months and returned last month. They have had protracted wrangles. Let residents report their grievances to security officers instead of taking the law into their hands. These issues can be solved amicably,” said Nyawade.

A message echoed by Homa Bay County Police Commander Samson Kinne who urged couples to seek alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

“We have the woman in our custody but I urge residents to seek the advice of religious leaders and elders when faced with domestic issues instead of physical fighting,” said Kinne.

The body was moved to Manyatta Kobodo nursing home mortuary awaiting postmortem.
