Dear Colleagues,

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Olumide Akpata, on Tuesday, 27th October, 2020, attended the maiden sitting of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Human Rights abuses by members of the disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and the Nigerian Police at large.

At the session, the NBA President appreciated the Panel, led by the Hon. Justice Doris Okuwobi (Retd) for its determination in doing Justice and reiterated the support and commitment of the Nigerian Bar Association to the mandate of the Panel, in a number of ways namely: providing representation to victims who are unable to do so for themselves; acting as Amicus in the proceedings of the panel; and providing pro bono services to indigent victims.

The NBA President also promised that the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association is committed to replicating same assistance to all Judicial Panels of Inquiry in all States of the Federation through its Branches.

The Chairman of the Panel appreciated the NBA President for the visit, and assured him of its commitment to the mandate they have been given, while promising that justice would be done to all manner of persons before it.
