Like other members of the legal community, who knew or passed through him at the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos, I received with shock the demise of our revered lecturer and later Director General, Dr. Kole Adeniyi Abayomi, SAN, who passed on to eternal glory in the early hours of Thursday, 2nd April, 2020 in London at the age of 79 years.

A scion of the legendary Sir Kofo Adekunle Abayomi, he was called to the Bar in 1966 and was admitted to the inner Bar in 2005. He was one of the fifty men that drafted the Nigerian constitution, a lecturer of the Nigerian Law School for many years and rose to become the Director-General of the Law School before he retired and went into private legal practice and consultancy.

I was fortunate to have been one of his students at the Law School and found him to be a great lecturer, fine gentle man, always impeccably dressed with a high standard. He loved to teach and this accounted for his going straight into teaching upon his return from England. Dr. Abayomi, SAN was a thorough bred and astute scholar, who loved to impact knowledge and trained us to be confident as lawyers.

He has left indelible marks on the sands of time, especially in the area of moulding generations of lawyers, including my humble self. Dr. Abayomi, was a family man, who did not hide his love for his children and grand children and will be really missed by his loved ones and the legal community. I pray the Almighty grants him eternal rest.
