A traffic police officer attached to Mbirizi Police Station in Lwengo District is on the run after allegedly hacking his girlfriend to near death.

The cop allegedly hacked Justine Muganga, a resident of Nyendo town council in Masaka District before taking off with her vehicle.

Ms Muganga is a mobile phone retailer in Nyendo town.

The suspect reportedly left Nyendo town council together with Ms Muganga on November 1, enroute to Kenya to buy phones.

They reportedly made a stopover at the suspect’s home in Kadimokoli Sub-county in Budaka District to rest and planned to resume the journey the next day.

However, the next day, the couple covered a short distance after the police officer reportedly hacked Ms Muganga at Sekulo village in Budaka and left her for dead.
Mr Patrick Kunyile, the Sekulo Parish chairperson, says a Good Samaritan found the abandoned Ms Muganga bleeding and rushed her to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital where she is nursing injuries.

Budaka District Police Commander, Mr Wilson James Salam, said that they have since recovered Ms Muganga’s vehicle but the suspect is still at large.

He is suspected to have fled to Kenya.

According to Mr Salam, once arrested, the suspect will be charged with robbery, theft and attempted murder.

“The police officer attempted to kill someone [Ms Muganga] and took off with her money and mobile phones,” he said.
