30 new Senior advocates of Nigeria were inducted at the new legal year of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The Induction of new senior advocates is usually part of the programme of the Supreme Court new legal year ceremony and the 2018/19 year began in Abuja on the 24th of September .
Among the dignitaries invited is the President of the Nigerian Bar Association,Mr Paul Usoro SAN.In his speech,he urged the new senior advocates to be humble with the rank.He reminded them that among other factors like intellectual fecundity,hard work,diligence, unparalleled advocacy skills which were taken into consideration in awarding them the title,humility stands out as one of the important considerations.
He said that humility stands out and elevates a senior advocate and that includes humility to the courts,humility to colleagues,humility to clients and the public.He urged them to exercise humility in the courtrooms by sharing the front row or inner bar with colleagues who do not have places to sit down in crowded courtrooms.
He also reminded them that they have been elevated to a position of role models and should not be heard to maltreat junior colleagues or not remunerate them well.
Mr Usoro commended the Justices of the Supreme Court for their pronouncements in many contentious and extremely political appeals which have helped to preserve Law and order.
He specifically commended the Chief Justice ,Mr Walter Onnoghen for making the Supreme Court ICT compliant.
