Registration has opened for the 2026 Lawyers Table Tennis Open ( Mfon Usoro Cup) slated to hold in Lagos on the 26th of September 2026 at Eko Club.
The event has two categories, Female where Chioma Ifebunso will be playing as the defending Champion while Ahmed Ajila will be playing as the defending Champion in the male category.
Entry fee is N5000 for both categories which ends on the 15th of July 2026.

- Lawyers Table Tennis Open (Mfon Usoro) Cup is sponsored by one of Nigeria’s foremost Maritime Lawyers, Mfon Usoro.
- The first official finals of the tournament was held in September 2009.
- The event holds every year. However, it did not hold in 2020 because of Covid- 19 restrictions.
- The female category was introduced in 2010.
- Lekan Ijelu was the first to ever win the tournament in 2009.
- The 1st and 3rd place winners of the 2009 events are now Judges of Lagos State High Court while the 2011 Champion, Olusegun Fabunmi is a Senior Advocate.
- Titilayo Osagie was the first to win the female category of Lawyers Table Tennis Open (Mfon Usoro Cup) in 2010.
- Titilayo Osagie has won the female tournament the most winning every year except in 2017, 2022 and 2025. She is the most decorated female player.
- In 2017,Yetunde Martins became the first to defeat Titilayo Osagie in the female category, Victoria Emeghebo became the second to defeat her in 2022 and Chioma Ifebunso defeated her in 2025.Chioma will be competing as the defending champion in 2026.
- In 2025, Chioma Ifebunso became the first female lawyer based outside Lagos to win the Lawyers Table Tennis Open (Mfon Usoro cup) female category. She is a member of Bwari Branch of the NBA.
- The total Prize money for the female category is higher than the Male category. This is because Mrs Efe Etomi supports the female Prize. Olusegun Fabunmi SAN supports both Prizes.
- Since the female category started in 2010, only four female Lawyers have won it. Titilayo Osagie has won it 12 times. Yetunde Martins once in 2017, Victoria Emeghebo in once 2022 and Chioma Ifebunso in 2025.
- Ajila Oladapo Ahmed and Tunji Abdulhameed have won the championship the most. Abdulhameed won in 2013,2014, 2015 and 2017 while Ajila won in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 making Ajila the greatest Lawyers Table Tennis open(Mfon Usoro cup) Player.
- In 2018, for the first time in the history of the event, a lawyer from outside Lagos playing for the first time won the tournament .His name is Yahaya Olarewaju from Lokoja. He went ahead to win again in 2019.
- Lawyers Table Tennis Open (Mfon Usoro cup) is the biggest sporting event among lawyers in Nigeria. With lawyers from more than 15 states participating since inception.
- In the 2018 finals, first time participants in the male tournament took the 1st (Yahaya Olarewaju) 2nd (Seye Oki ) and 3rd (Joshua Nyengierefaka) positions in the men’s’ finals.
- Adedayo Oshodi SAN is the only lawyer who has played in all the tournaments since it began in 2009 meaning that he has participated in the tournament 16 times.
- Only two young Lawyers have won the male championship since inception. In 2010 it was won by Wale Oduwole who was called in 2004.In 2016 it was won by Kabir Adeleke called in 2011
- Only one young lawyer has ever won the female category of the event. Victoria Emeghebo.
- Three Senior Advocates registered to play in the 2025 event: Dayo Oshodi SAN, Victor Opara SAN and Paul Chukwuma Obi SAN
- Ajila Oladapo who won the male tournament in 2021,2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 will be playing as a defending Champion in 2026 while Chioma Ifebunso will play as a defending champion in 2026 for the female category.
- For the first time the two defending champions for the male and female categories are based outside Lagos.
- The event is officiated by Professional umpires from the Nigerian Table Tennis Federation.
- The event has received sponsorship from companies like Access Bank, Airtel and Premium Pensions in support of the main Prize by Mfon Usoro.
