The Nigerian Bar Association, having received nominations from all geopolitical zones for appointment to the Supreme Court, has called for objections and comments on the nominated persons.

See details below:

Dear Colleagues,

Recall that by a letter dated the 19th of January 2022, the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the Federal Judicial Service Commission, Hon. Dr. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad CFR, requested from critical stakeholders including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the nomination of suitable candidates for consideration for appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Consequently, on the 7th day of February 2022, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) through its Judiciary Committee called for expression of interest, from suitably qualified legal practitioners from specific Geo-political Regions in Nigeria for appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court. This call was based on a request for nomination sent to the NBA President by the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria has now by a letter dated the 27th of May 2022, published the names of the provisional shortlist and requests members of the Bar and the general public to submit petitions and/or make comments on the suitability for appointment of any of the listed individuals. The comments/petitions must be sent to the NBA Secretariat or through the designated email – legal@nigerianbar.org.ng on or before the 27th day of June 2022.

Kindly find attached the request for petitions/comments together with the provisional shortlist.
