It was a homecoming for the President of Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Olumide Akpata, when he recently visited leaders and members of some branches of the Association in Delta State.

The President made his first stop at the residence of the past President of the NBA, Chief T.J. Okpoko, SAN, who hosted the President and his team, which included the NBA First Vice President, John Aikpokpo-Martins; and Welfare Secretary, Olakunle Edun, to a Luncheon Reception. The Reception also had in attendance the Chairmen of NBA Warri, Effurun and Udu Branches as well as other leaders of the Bar in these Branches including, but not limited to: H.E. Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN, Charles Ajuyah, SAN, Ama Etuwewe, SAN, Ayo Asala, SAN, Patrick Oganwu, Chief V.E. Otomiewo and Chief Gweke Akudihor.

There were discussions on a wide range of issues affecting the Nigerian Bar Association and the profession, with useful contributions from many of those present on possible solutions to these issues. The parley ended on a high note with Chief Okpoko, SAN praying for a successful tenure for the President and his team and assuring the President of the unalloyed support of all Branches of the NBA in Delta State for his presidency.

Following the meeting with Chief Okpoko, the NBA President joined the NBA Effurun Branch at their monthly meeting where he was well received by the Chairman of the Branch, Jonathan Ekperusi, and the members present. The President expressed gratitude to the Branch for their unequivocal support for his candidacy and assured them that he would work very closely with the Branch towards achieving the objectives of the Association.

The President thereafter proceeded immediately to the NBA Warri Branch for its monthly meeting, which was holding simultaneously, and he was also very warmly received by the Chairman of the Branch, Emmanuel Uti, and the members present. Again, the President thanked the Branch for standing solidly behind him during the Elections, noting that this was a clear testament to the close bond that he shares with Branch and its members. He then assured the members that he will work very closely with the Branch towards achieving the objectives of the Association.

The President’s trip to Delta State culminated in a visit to the members of the NBA Asaba Branch, where he was hosted to a Luncheon by a member of the Branch, Mr. Chiedu Ebie who is also the Secretary to the Delta State Government. Those in attendance at the event included: the Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter Mrakpor; the Chairman of the NBA Asaba Branch as well as his colleagues from Ogwashi-uku and Agbor; Mr. Chike Onyemenam, SAN; Mr. Ekeme Ohwovoriole, SAN; Mr. Thompson Anigara, LOAN Chairman, Delta State and Princess Pat Ajudua, Chief Whip of the Delta State House of Assembly. Speaking at the event, the host Mr. Ebie congratulated the President on his victory at the polls and urged him to justify the confidence that was so clearly reposed in him by members of the NBA by ensuring that the Association adds value to the professional lives of its members irrespective of the segment of the profession that they operate in. Other speakers at the event, including the Honourable Attorney General and the Chairman of NBA Asaba Branch, Mr. Nwabueze Eseagwu, also poured encomiums on the NBA President and assured him of the support of members of the NBA in Delta State for his administration and for a united and indivisible NBA.
