A judge in Nevada was arrested by Las Vegas police on a domestic violence charge after an incident involving her 18-year-old son, an attorney for the judge’s estranged husband told police.

Clark County District Judge Stefany Miley was arrested around 11 p.m. Saturday after an attorney for her husband, Edward Miley, called police late Saturday to report an incident that allegedly turned physical between the judge and the couple’s teenage son, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The Mileys are in the process of getting a divorce. Edward Miley, who is a family law and criminal defense attorney, forwarded a message from his son to Bruce Gale, one of the attorneys representing him in his own divorce.

“Call me now,” the teen wrote in the message forwarded to Gale. “I need help. Mom punched me in the mouth and hit me in the head while I was driving. I [am] bleeding and need you to pick me up. She started screaming around the neighbors and tried falling on me to make it look like I was hurting her.”

Gale told the newspaper he contacted police after speaking with Edward Miley and reviewing the state’s rules of conduct for attorneys. Stefany Miley, a native of Texas first elected to Nevada’s Family Court in 2004, is now facing one count of battery domestic violence under her maiden name of Stefany Tewell, according to court records cited by the newspaper.

Details of the judge’s arrest were not immediately available and police in Las Vegas did not return a message seeking comment early Thursday.

An attorney representing the judge said he had not yet seen the police report regarding the incident.

“We look forward to representing Judge Miley, who intends on vigorously defending herself against these mere allegations,” David Chesnoff told the Review-Journal.

Stefany Miley is scheduled to appear before a judge on Jan. 22. Edward Miley filed to dissolve their marriage earlier this year, citing “catastrophic health issues” and also requesting spousal support.

Attorneys for Edward Miley said in his filing that while he “loves his wife Stefany very much,” the couple’s incompatibility is so vast that no chance of reconciliation exists.

The document also claims that Miley has “conducted herself in such a manner, and taken certain actions, that are improper and inappropriate to the harm and detriment of Edward,” according to the Review-Journal.

The judge, meanwhile, acknowledged in a separate filing that she and Miley are “incompatible in marriage” but denied the “false and defamatory” allegations.

The incident marks at least the second time that the Mileys have been involved in a domestic violence incident. In October 2009, Edward Miley was arrested on a domestic battery charge after an argument at the couple’s home during which he allegedly choked the judge and the couple’s dog, KTNV reports.

The judge was later granted a temporary protective order against Edward Miley and later filed for divorce. The couple then briefly reconciled but is now in the midst of a divorce for the second time, according to the station.

Stefany Miley, according to a 2014 website for her re-election bid, was raised in Austin, Texas, before graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in journalism and marketing. She was first elected to Family Court in 2004. Four years later, she was elected to District Court, where she presides over civil and criminal cases.
