Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has signed into law the Security Challenges (Containment) Order No 3, 2021, in the exercise of powers conferred upon him by Section 176 (2) of the 1999 Constitution.

The law became necessary due to the prevailing insecurity in the state, occasioned by banditry, which led to loss of life and property, undermining free movement of people, goods and services in the affected areas.

The order, which takes effect on September 1, 2021, directs the immediate total closure of Isa-Marnona Road to all motorists. Travellers plying that road are advised to go through Goronyo–Sabon Birni axis. Lorries/trucks or other vehicles carrying wood from the forests are also prohibited.
