Faith Mony Odhiambo has been elected President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) ,Courtroom Mail reports.
She defeated four other candidates to emerge as the winner in the elections held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 where more than 15,000 Advocates were qualified to vote.
According to the results released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the outgoing Vice President of LSK won in all the polling stations at Milimani and Supreme Court, where she got 132 and 207 votes respectively.She also secured votes in other polling stations to emerge victorious.
Final results put Odhiambo in position one after garnering 3113; Peter Wanyama was second with 2165, Kamende Daudi came third with 888, Ng’etich Benhard was fourth with 833, and Harriet Mboce was fifth with 511 votes.
The total valid votes cast were 7510, revealing that only 50% of advocates qualified to vote participated in the elections.
Odhiambo succeeds Eric Theuri who has served as LSK president since March 2022. She will be the second woman to lead the association since 1949 when the association was established. The first was Raychella Omamo who served as the President of the association between 2001- 2003.
Odhiambo will serve for a non-renewable two-year- term.
During her campaigns, Odhiambo received a huge boost after former prime minister and ODM party leader Raila Odinga endorsed her candidature.
