An attempt by suspected Internet fraudster (Yahoo boy), Fisayo Falade, to flush his mobile phone down the toilet and destroy evidence has been foiled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The EFCC said in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Tony Orilade, that the 20-year-old suspect attempted to dispose of the phone during a raid by operatives of the Commission in Ibadan.

According to the agency, 14 other suspects were arrested during a raid on two houses on Tuesday.
The Commission said 10 of the suspects were arrested at Akatanpa Powerline, while the other five were nabbed at Kushenla area of the Oyo State capital.

Ranging between 20 and 28 years, the suspects were allegedly hiding behind fake names and identities to perpetrate fraud, dispossessing their unsuspecting victims of their hard-earned money.

The statement reads in part, “Their alleged involvement in Internet-related fraud was reported to the Commission by neighbours who noticed their expensive ways of life even though they are supposedly undergraduates, and without any known source of income.
“Items recovered from them include two exotic cars, laptops, mobile phones and several documents containing false pretences.

“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”

The desperate attempts by suspected Internet fraudsters to destroy evidence or evade arrest have become more dramatic in recent times.
In May, some suspected fraudsters unleashed their dog on EFCC operatives in a bid to frustrate investigation; while, a few weeks ago, some suspected Yahoo boys hid their phones in refrigerators during a raid.
