A Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Friday remanded a 35 -year-old man, Hammed Quardi, in prison following his plea of guilty to stealing.
Quardi, whose address was not provided, is facing a count charge of stealing a bag containing one Samsung Galaxy phone valued at N60,000.
The Magistrate, Mr Aka Bashorun, adjourned the case until July 30 for review of facts of the case and sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP. Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 20 at about 5.00p.m at Morogbo Junction, on Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos.
Okuoimose told the court that the defendant stole the bag containing the phone.
According to him, he also stole cash sum of N17,000, totalling N77,000, a property of Mr Adigun Abolarin.
“The defendant was arrested by Abolarin and others and handed him over to the police for prosecution.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing.
