The Publicity secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association Kunle Edun has denied the news making rounds that the President of the Nigerian Bar Association ,Mr Usoro made a statement suggesting that the NBA cannot help a sick colleague.
He stated that the NBA President was never aware of the situation and that the situation was brought to his attention via a facebook post .He said that he has adviced the NBA Abuja branch where the member belongs to write the National on the subject but no correspondence has been received .
The fake news broke out this afternoon to the dismay of Lawyers who have expressed concern as to why such misleading information should be put out.
The statement by the Publicity Secretary is below.
“This report is very unfair and not balance. This same information was brought to my attention on Facebook yesterday and I responded immediately, that the NBA President was never aware of the situation of our colleague. I requested to know if Abuja branch had written a letter to the National Secretariat on this issue. The response was negative. Immediately, I advised that a letter be written to the NBA on this issue. Till date, we have not gotten any such letter. It therefore bothers me that my intervention in this matter was not published alongside. I was also not called by you to get the NBA’s views on this issue.
Processes and procedures at the National Secretariat are formal and every activity is properly documented, as we still have to report to NEC.
