In commemoration of the 2019 International Women’s day on the 8th of March ,Courtroom Mail is organising the Abimbola Akeredolu SAN Courtroom Mail Prize for female lawyers The competition is set to open on monday 4th of February 2019 and the finals comes up on Saturday 2nd of March at 8am. The competition is open to female lawyers who are 1-10 years post call. (Lawyers called from 2009)

According to Otedola Owa , the managing editor of Courtroom Mail, the quiz is aimed at encouraging young female lawyers who are in actual practice of law .
She said that Mrs Akeredolu,the sponsor, who has made a success of Courtroom Practice is a source of motivation and inspiration to many young female lawyers across the country. She expressed her gratitude to her for associating with the competition.

Abimbola Ibironke Akeredolu, SAN is a Partner at Banwo and Ighodalo a top tier law firm in Lagos. She was born Abimbola Adejumo. She went to Corona Nursery, Ikoyi, Lagos, Corona Primary School, and subsequently, Holy Child College, Obalende, Ikoyi, Lagos. Soon afterwards, she went to Halidon House School, in Slough, in Buckinghamshire, England. She returned to the University of Lagos where she studied French for her first degree. As part of her program, she spent one year at the Universite des Langueset Lettres in Grenoble, France. She also got a scholarship to study Italian language at the Universita Per Stranieri in Perugia, Italy. She then proceeded for her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) before returning to the University of Lagos to study Law. She attended the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos for her law school and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991.

Mrs. Akeredolu started the build up to her career as a company secretary of Afri-Trust Limited where she worked for about seven months. She then joined the law firm of Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, in Ilorin (Kwara State). After a two-year break, she joined Mrs. Funke Adekoya SAN where she worked for a few years before joining the firm of Olaniwun Ajayi LLP. She had a brief period with the firm of Austin-Peters & Co and proceeded to Aluko & Oyebode where she worked for 5 years before joining Banwo & Ighodalo in 2007.

Mrs. Abimbola is a target driven and goal oriented lawyer. Her resolute commitment to the best interest of her clients in transactions and in the course of litigation and negotiation of settlements, and the inevitable attendant success is an attribute for which she is often commended. She is quite renowned for her vast experience in commercial litigation and arbitration. Her multilingual skills (English, French, Italian and German) makes her a lawyer with a difference.

In 2013, she was appointed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ogun State; the first female to be appointed to that office. In 2015 she was conferred with the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.She is a source of inspiration and mentor to many young female lawyers across the Country.

The competition will come in form of a quiz game in four stages and answers are expected to be posted on the comment section of courtroom mail which will show the time all answers are posted to ensure transparency. The questions will also be posted on Saturday mornings to ensure that lawyers under employment have time to participate or will not be commuting to work on those days.

The prizes to be won are 1st Prize- One year Executive subscription of Supreme Court Judgements . 2nd and 3rd Prize will win 1 year basic subscription each.

The time table of the competition is as follows:

4th -10th of February– Registration opens. A question will be posted and ALL female lawyers who login to answer the question will be presumed to have registered for the competition and shall qualify to compete in the next stage

16TH of February 2018: The second question will be posted at 8am and the first 30 Participants (out of those that answered the first question/registered) to post the correct answer will qualify for the third stage.

23rd of February 2019: The third question will be posted at 8am and the first 10 to post the correct answer will qualify for the finals.

2nd of March 2018: The fourth and final question will be posted and the first three young lawyers to post the correct answer will become the winners of Abimbola Akeredolu SAN Courtroom Mail Prize for Female Lawyers and shall win the prizes accordingly.
